This is a current picture of the Stoneville School. (taken June 17, 2001) This school has quite a history.  This building was at one time two separate schools.  In 1925 the two schools were joined to create what is now the Stoneville School.  It was named for the nearby Stoneville Post Office.  High school began here in 1926.  By 1929 there were 35 high school students enrolled at this school.  These students came from many nearby communities within about a 30 mile radius.  High school continued here until 1942, which was the last year that Stoneville was a four-year school.

Today, this rural school in Meade County is still going strong.  Although, the student enrollment does vary from year to year.  Last year the enrollment was up.  It consisted of 15 students in grade K - 8.  I have taught at this school for five years and that was the largest year yet.

This building is a mark of heritage in our community.  Many families in the community have watched their children and grandchildren grow up at this school.  Other than minor repairs and upkeep, this building has for the most part remained unchanged.  It consists of one large room to the north and two smaller rooms to the south.  Although this school was built many years ago, it still stands strong and in my opinion, it is a great place to teach.
